Great lunch spot. I love the chicken vegetable soup- its really healthy and tasty. The salads are also great because they're cheap and delicious- its under 5 bucks and includes onion, carrots, cucumber and croutons. Then you pay per additional topping you want which is typical. I like this because regular salads cost this much as other places and they include only lettuce!! They also chop the salad really well which i appreciate

Updating my review and giving them a significant bump because: 1. I really enjoy their Tuscan white bean soup with spinach. 2. Balsamic chicken with avocado sandwich - also excellent. 3. The line at 3pm is non-existent. On the other hand, the winding line out the door into the hallway of Rockefeller Plaza anytime from 12-2pm is impossible. 4. The managers seem to really try to make sure no customer gets missed or is waiting too long. 5. Everyone was wearing gloves.

If you like severely overpaying for lumpy, scalding soup, then this is your place! I'm usually a big fan of Hale & Hearty Soup but this place misses the mark in a few areas. First of all, the lines move a bit slowly. The surrounding stores Potbelly and Pret have longer lines and move much faster. With the soup, maybe they don't have access to the best equipment being that Rockefeller buildings are pretty old, but they do a terrible job of maintaining soup quality. I went during prime rush hour so it's not like the soups had been sitting around for hours (or maybe they were), but I ordered what was described as a "creamy soup" but when I saw the server pouring my soup, it was far from creamy and instead looked like the she was pouring oatmeal into my cup. It's always a bad sign when the person has to shake the ladle to get the soup into the cup. So after shelling out $10 for my large soup, I brought it back to my office, which is about a 5 minute walk, and when I opened my soup, it was scalding hot. No wonder the soup was lumpy. Everyone (except this Hale & Hearty location) knows better than to keep soup really hot for a long period of time! Anyways, I won't be getting soup from here any time soon. They must have also loaded the soup with sodium cause I've felt not great since eating lunch.

A small is literally too small at this place. I remember eating at Hale & Hearty years ago but the portions were not like this? It came with a fairly sized piece of bread though which still makes it filling. I had their chicken pot pie, the soup wasn't as creamy as I hoped it to be. It was a bit more broth like rather than a bisque. For the amount you pay, the quantity should be more. I did a combo deal since my friend wanted to get half a sandwich but we realized whether you did a combo or bought it separately, you're not really saving any money. It comes out to being about the same. Overall, MEH. it's a chain, what do you expect?

I love Hale & Hearty! This was my go to place for lunch and dinner. Salads are fresh and there is a wide variety of toppings and dressings. Their soups change daily and are made from scratch. Try the tomato basil with rice. It will become your favorite tomato soup! Service is a bit slow, especially during peak lunch hours, but it's worth the wait.

Currently $2 credit with LevelUp - they are now using this as their loyalty program (no more bean cards) I have frequented and do frequent this location of H&H because of it's convenience and location near work. The lines can be really scary looking, as they usually snake into the Rockefeller concourse walkway, but don't fret - it usually takes 5 minutes or so to get to the soup counter. Soup here is ridiculously overpriced, in my opinion... upwards of $9 for a large specialty soup for some reason just doesn't seem right. I see a lot of people order a small soup for lunch and that's it. Really, does that actually fill you up until dinner? That's like a snack, even with the free piece of carbs. My go to here, whenever I do come here, is a medium or large tuscan white bean or a three lentil chili. Those usually hold me over until dinner, depending on how hungry I am to begin with. Customer service in my experience has been okay - no horror stories... yet.

Eaten here a bunch of times. Usually get the chicken and noodle soup (also have option of getting cous cous instead of noodles) and some type of chicken sandwich, or at least sandwiches that appear to have the least amount of cheese. Came here today around 3:30 PM, not many people, and got the same soup and half of a chicken and avocado sandwich. About $8. Expensive for the price. Service was horrible as well. Three people pouring soup, splattering it all over the cups, talking with each other, instead of more efficiently helping customers.

Raining hard plus a Cold, windy day! Stopped in at the Rockefeller plaza inside to get myself warmed up! First time coming into this shop to try their soup out. I ordered a small tomato soup with chicken and orzo which costed $5!! That was expensive for such a small tiny size! It comes with your choice of bread or cracker! Definitely go with the cracker! The tomato soup was somewhat creamy and on the sweet side! Tasted like there was a lot of sugar in there! The soup I must say was indeed very satisfying, delicious and it warm me up! Next time, just go for the medium size which is only an extra $1.60ish in change!

While waiting for our NBC taping show admission, we decided to passed our time in this place . Tried their combo meal- Manhattan chowder with turkey / Parmesan sandwich . Extra cracker goes with the soup . Taste is very hearty . Price is considerably fair for a meal in the city. Location is underground of the famous Rockefeller plaza. Convenient to all. What I did not like though is that there is not much available seats for their customer. They expect them to eat in the central customer area down the hall. I'll try same restaurant next time but different location.

First time eating here today and I ordered a soup and a half sandwich. The soup was delicious! The sandwich, not so much. I'm not sure if this place uses organic lettuce, but there was a dead bug on mine. Just as I was about to take a bite I saw what looked like a mouse dropping. Thank god it wasn't, but I would highly recommend them washing their salad. Needless to say I didn't finish my lunch.

Decent food...decent prices. Doesn't blow your socks off, but edible. I like that it felt healthy and had calorie counts on the menu so you could make informed choices. I had a half soup/half sandwich (a wrap with tatziki and carrot ginger artichoke soup). I probably wouldn't order either again, but it was edible.

a soup for all tastes and diets. fast friendly service. dig deep in your pockets though. its pricey. but then again its NY, I feel like the "Welcome to NY" signs at the airport should have a new sub text "its pricey" but maybe its just me. Soup ON!!!!

There are few things that I dislike more than trying to grab lunch when EVERYBODY is grabbing lunch at that exact moment and you are standing in line wondering if you would starve to death waiting. Thankfully, this was not the case for Hale & Hearty. I came in around noon-ish and they were the least busiest of the bunch (Pret and Potbelly). They have separate lines for salad, soups, and sandwiches. I ordered the Hungarian Chicken AND bacon dumplings It wasn't what I was expecting. The soup itself had flavor, a Mediterranean one which i really liked but then there were cubes of mushrooms which i didn't like. It almost felt like every sip of the soup was filled with 2 or 3 cubes of mushrooms. Last i check the soup was called Hungarian CHICKEN AND BACON. The bacon dumplings were nowhere to be found unless the potato-like (think of a cross between mash potato and mochi balls and you have an idea) thing in my soup was what they called a dumpling. And yes there was NO bacon in them. I checked and checked again FURIOUSLY for them.Hale and Hearty didn't list the ingredients on the board above where they were serving soup from unlike their competition (Pret) did. Their prices (Small-$5, Medium-$7, Large-$8, and Quartz-$9) with taxes included was expected in a heavy foot traffic area of Rockefeller Center leading to the concourse. Hale & Hearty does have a LARGE selection of assorted soups (coconut shrimp, 7 herbs, etc.) that might entice me to come back just to try in hopes of being able to give them a better rating.

Soup is a meal Jerry. Soup is a meal. This place gets the brunt of the Rockefeller concourse lunch rush and while their sandwiches are decent the soup is why you're here. The cream of tomato with chicken and orzo will never disappoint. It's pretty pricey for soup but a large is a great lunch when you have a case of the sandwich blahs.

For a fast food chain, I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised that their soups aren't super saturated with sodium. I guess the health awareness kick really is permeating the fast food industry. Love the multitude of soup choices. I think I counted at least 14 different soups when I walked in before I saw they had a made-to-order salad bar as well. Staff was super friendly and informative, and I'm glad I have a go-to place for lunch-time eats in the city.

H&H has upped skimming on soup ingredients.When you pay $8.59 for a large Beef Stew soup you should reasonably expect at least as much beef as there is in a $4.99 hamburger. Instead there was almost none! I guess it was "Beef Stock"!! H&H is the closest thing to highway robbery among all the decrepit lunch options in midtown Manhattan! What is worse, they seem to add more and more sugar to everything! Anyone for sweet Clam Chowder? How about sugary Vegetarian Chili?! Never going there again. Period.

I wish we had these in Chicago but when I have to come to work at 30 Rockefeller or in NYC I always head here. All we have here is subpar Panera Bread and Panera reminds me of the McDonald's of soup and and sandwhich places. This is one place I don't care about the service or how nice someone is to me, but oddly enough the people are nice and will answer questions...I am allergic to shrimp for instance and the woman was kind enough to check to make sure it wasn't a shrimp base. I had an egg salad sandwich and a lobster bisque soup...they were wonderful and I was so sad to see the empty containers and packaging upon finishing my meal. Upon receiving my soup and sammie just want my sandwich and a delicious bowl of soup I would like absolutely no one to bother me for about an hour while I enjoy my soup in scilence. Good nice filling lunch with a lot of variety to choose from. Yum.

After my district manager ranted and raved about this place I decided to try it out for lunch last week and I had the Cajun chicken sandwich and the chicken and broccoli soup and it was not at all appetizing. I was very disappointed. Cosi has way better developed flavors.

I'm a fan of H&H's chopped salads- although this place gets packed during lunch and is a little pricey, I've never been disappointed with the refreshing salads here. I prefer it over other salad places (and there are several in the area!)

I like the thick soups here. Corn chowder, chicken tortilla, minestrone, all are delicious. I like the chunky soups that you can practically eat with a fork. Sandwiches are good too - they have a veggie one with pesto, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese. Sure it's on the pricier side but it's worth it . The half soup half sandwich deal is pretty good and just the right portion for lunch. The line is long and intimidating but at most it'll take 10 minutes.

Working in Rockefeller Center, I've probably had all the options for casual food in the basement of 30 rock by now. In terms of food quality, Hale and Hearty wins. The soups are quite substantial and real-tasting; the salads are well-balanced and a small can be made a stand-alone meal. However, Hale and Hearty can be quite expensive. Hence the 3-star review: the food warrants four stars, but my wallet says deduct one! I've been to several in NYC and they're all like this. If you get the soup/salad combo, expect to spend $10; the one time I added a soda I spent roughly $13. You are getting quite a bit of food for that $10 -- as I said earlier, the small salad, given that you add an extra or two (huge variety from veggies to cheese to meats; these cost between 50 cents and a dollar extra), can weigh in at a hefty amount, and be a lunch by itself. The small soup isn't that big but I justify the purchase by thinking of how packed with flavor it is. I will come here a little before noon (also avoiding the lines!), get the combo, and still not be hungry eight hours later. I received a customer loyalty card on my first visit: buy 10 soups (any size), get a free medium. Still haven't made it to the ten soups, but this at least gives me a bit of incentive for the extra spending compared to, say, Potbelly. Speaking of Potbelly, they have the best bang for buck in all of the basement of 30 Rock. So if you're looking for affordable but real food down there, I'd recommend you go a few doors down and get one of their sandwiches. I'll save the details for an actual review of Potbelly. If you've got the craving for soup -- and believe me, I get that quite often -- and can loosen those purse-strings, give Hale and Hearty a shot.

Since this is a chain, I'll mostly review on the specifics of the location. It's a soup/sandwich place that is quite popular for lunch. For some reason, this place gets more crowded than most others in the Rockefeller concourse during lunch hours. I see the line go out the door quite often, when this happens, there is someone with a clipboard taking orders from the lines to keep things moving. I only go when the line is short. When the lines are shorter, there seems to be two lines. One just for the soup/sandwich combo [$8 for a small soup and half sandwich] and one for everything else. They ran out of a sandwich I wanted and was told it would be 10 minutes before some more came out...that sucked. Food overall is average but a typical choice for the lunch crowd. Go right at 12 or take a later lunch to avoid long lines.

I've been to Hale and Hearty twice now, and both times I've been terribly dissappointed with their soups. The first time I paid nearly $9 for 16 oz of their "seafood paella" which was basically a tomato based soup with some rice and unrecognizably small pieces of meat. It was very bland. I was told to try the half sandwich/small soup combo, so I went back and got the half chicken club and the small broccoli cheddar soup. Broccoli cheddar soup is my absolute favorite... anywhere else. Somehow, Hale and Hearty managed to make this soup disgusting. It's like they put some broccoli through a juicer and then added the liquid to some cheese grits. Blech! Thank God I only got a small. The sandwich was good, but nothing special. I could get the same thing somewhere else for a lot cheaper.
